About the studio

Small studio.
Big advantage.

Grey Sky Media has been building software since the 1900s. (OK, since 1999, but still.) What started as a web studio founded in Rocklin, California has shipped 193 projects and counting across websites, web applications, native apps, marketing, SEO, brand, and infrastructure. In 2024 we made a deliberate call: stay boutique, integrate AI deeply into our workflows, and let the leverage compound.

The businesses that hire us usually have the same thing in common: they've outgrown their current stack, or they have a manual process that's eating hours no one wants to admit. They want a partner who can actually build the thing — not manage a hand-off to three different vendors.

That's what staying small buys you: the senior engineer who scopes your project is the one who writes the code, and the one who picks up when you call a year later. Nothing gets handed down to someone who wasn't in the room. Nobody has to be re-briefed on what you're trying to do. The advantage isn't that we're small — it's that you're never more than one conversation away from the person actually building your software.

What we do

Full-service — from brand to deployed software.

We take projects from first principles to production. If we quote it, we can build it — no hand-offs to freelancers, no scope that quietly grows. Senior people on every project, start to finish.

  • Custom native apps

macOS, iOS, Android, and Windows. Same studio team, same craft, every platform.

  • Custom web applications

Full-stack web apps from database schema to deployed UI — built to run for years, not just launch.

  • AI integration and automation

Workflows that replace manual repetition: classification, routing, extraction, drafting. Custom-built around your stack.

  • Brand identity and collateral

Logo, typography, color system, and print-ready assets. Built to work across digital and physical surfaces.

  • Connectivity and infrastructure

Network architecture, device provisioning, and managed infrastructure for businesses that need it to just work.

  • IT management

Ongoing IT support for your team — hardware, software, licensing, and security — so you don't think about it.

  • MDM management

Apple Business Manager, device enrollment, remote wipe, and configuration profiles across your fleet.

  • On-site services

We come to you. Installations, hardware setup, training, and on-site troubleshooting in the Sacramento metro.

  • API integration

Connect the tools your operation already runs on — QuickBooks, Salesforce, Clover, BigTime — without replacing the stack.

  • Clover POS development

Custom Clover apps, merchant account setup, item catalog, tax rates, and hardware deployment.

  • Marketing and SEO

Local SEO strategy, content, and schema that surfaces your business for the searches that actually drive revenue.

  • Marketing sites

Fast, mobile-first marketing sites built for inbound — copywriting, photography, design, and development in one engagement.

  • Merchandise and print

Apparel, packaging, signage, and branded print — designed in-house and produced at quality margins.

The AI team

A full dev team that runs alongside every project.

Built around the roles a real studio needs: project director, senior engineer, designer, security auditor, QA, DevOps, and scrum master. Each team member carries a specific mandate, persistent context on how we work, and access to a shared work queue.

They draft, audit, test, and document. Humans review and ship. The result is boutique quality at a scale that used to require a much bigger team.

How it works

01

Work enters the queue

Every task — feature, bug, audit — goes into a shared queue visible to client and studio alike.

02

The right agent picks it up

A project director triages and assigns. The relevant specialist — engineer, security auditor, QA — executes against their mandate.

03

Humans review and ship

No AI output reaches production without a senior review. Tests pass first. Then it ships.

04

Everything is visible

Regular standups, shared documents, and transparency on progress. No surprises, just straightforward communication.

How we operate

  • 01

    Tests before claims.

Every product we ship runs hundreds of tests on every change. "It works on my machine" is not a release criterion.

  • 02

Strategic platforms for the long haul.

We've built our business on Cloudflare — a global Platform-as-a-Service that runs roughly 20% of the internet. Compute, storage, database, and CDN at the edge across 337 cities, so your app loads fast wherever your customers are and stays up when traffic spikes.

  • 03

    Security is non-negotiable.

Secrets stay in protected vaults. Every legacy site we touch leaves more secure than we found it.

  • 04

    Automated client updates.

Clients get updates via shared documents, regular video check-ins, and a project-specific Slack channel. No hidden hours, no "trust us, we're working on it."

Fractional AI partner

Hire us by the month, not the hour.

For small and mid-size businesses that need senior AI thinking embedded in the operation — not a contractor on a one-off project. We become the AI partner your team would otherwise need to hire as a VP of Engineering or Director of AI, at a fraction of the cost.

2-month minimum engagement

Why a 25-year-old technology studio is a different kind of AI partner.

Most "AI consultancies" you can hire right now didn't exist three years ago. We've been building production software since 1999 — well before AI was the conversation. That changes what we bring to the table:

  • We've shipped 193+ production systems.

Every recommendation is informed by what we've actually seen ship, survive contact with real users, and earn its keep over years — not what looks promising on a vendor's pitch deck.

  • We know what AI replaces and what it doesn't.

25 years of building enterprise software has taught us where the hype ends and the leverage begins. We'll tell you when a custom AI agent is a bad idea — and recommend the boring software fix that actually solves your problem.

  • Senior engineers, not analysts.

Your fractional partner is hands-on. We don't hand off to a junior team or punt to a vendor when implementation gets real. If we recommend it, we can build it.

  • Vendor-neutral, results-aligned.

We don't resell anyone's platform and we don't have quotas to hit. If the right answer is "buy off-the-shelf for $200/month," we'll say so. If the right answer is "build it custom," we can do that too.

  • We stay after the launch.

Most consultancies disappear at handoff. We operate, maintain, and improve what we ship — for years. The clients we worked with in 1999 are still our clients.

What a fractional engagement includes

  • – Weekly strategy sessions
  • – AI workflow design + review
  • – Vendor evaluation + selection
  • – Roadmap planning + prioritization
  • – Hands-on implementation as needed
  • – Team training + enablement
  • – Direct line to senior leadership
  • – Quarterly outcome reporting

Can AI help?

What's the task your team does manually every day?

Tell us in plain words. We'll ask a couple of questions, then tell you honestly whether it's worth automating — no sales pitch.
